This collection of poems and short stories in verse show Lili Tuwai as a serious writer and poet. She writes candidly about the wounds of child sexual abuse, domestic violence, infidelity and betrayal. Her soulful verses also embrace and celebrate the joys of love, friendship, prayer, nature and wishful thinking. We are also given insight into the chore of coping with agoraphobia.

Through a mix of voices and topics that mingle, merge and split, Tuwai takes us on a journey of what she calls "a reVersing life." At times she skilfully demonstrates her wit and quirky sense of humour whilst tackling hard issues that have impacted her life as well as communities everywhere.

Her myths effortlessly transport us to another place in time where Time and Meaning unite to create a sustainable Past, Present and Future throughout the Pacific region.

Whilst the topics in this book are eclectic, a strong theme throughout is a stand against all forms of abusive behavior that permeates daily life. Tuwai responds to the off-field antics of some professional footballers'; and ponders a child's confusion after sexual assault; she spells out the mind-numbing effect of neighbourhood gossip and argy-bargy; and the things we say and do 'for heavens sake'; and the ugliness of a drunk verbally abusing his wife.

Tuwai believes her book is appropriate reading for survivors (of abuse) and the broader community alike. During a recent interview she said, "I hope survivors will feel less alone when reading the verses. I also hope people who have not suffered such abuses, gain insight into issues many survivors live with. Just as important though, I would like people to enjoy the read."

Although this is Lili Tuwai's first book, she has published widely as a journalist and academic.
